1)     be at least 18 years of age

2)     be a U.S. citizen

4)     be able to do extensive physical labor

5)     have worked at least 10 shows through Local 24 within one year of their application date

6)     schedule and complete an interview with the Training and Apprenticeship Committee

Note: Any applicant interested in becoming a “Wardrobe Only” apprentice will be required to meet all of the above guidelines except that “Wardrobe Only” applicants will only be required to have worked two shows within one year of their application date as opposed to ten shows.

Anyone accepted into the Local 24 Apprenticeship Program must fulfill the following requirements before being considered for membership by the Training and Apprenticeship Committee:

All applicants are required to submit a non-refundable $250 application fee which shall be applied towards the applicant’s initiation fee for membership should they fulfill the necessary requirements set forth by the Apprenticeship Program.

All applicants are required to sign a Local 24 Apprenticeship Program Agreement.

It is suggested that all apprentices submit semi annual installment payments in the amount of $250 to Local 24 until that apprentice’s total initiation fees required for membership have been fully submitted to the local.  These installments shall be applied towards the applicant’s final membership initiation fee.  Any remaining balance of the initiation fee for membership will be required to be paid in full before the applicant’s membership application will be sent to the International for approval.

All apprentices are required to attend 50% of all Local 24 training classes held each year.

All apprentices are required to perform 1000 hours of work referred by Local 24 within 2 years of the apprentice’s application date.  These 1000 hours shall breakdown into the following specific hours required for each discipline.

1)     400 hours in Carpentry

2)     300 hours in Electrics and Lighting

3)     200 hours in Sound and Video

4)     100 hours in Props

Note:  Any applicant interested in becoming a “Wardrobe Only” apprentice will be required to work 300 hours in the wardrobe department within two years as opposed to the 1000 hours set forth for stagehand applicants stated above.

All training hours, work hours, and testing involved with the apprenticeship program must be completed within 3 years of the apprentice’s application date.

Apprentices shall keep with them at all Local 24 referred worksites an Hourly Logbook provided by Local 24.  All hours worked, dates worked, positions worked, and special notes shall be logged and signed off on by the apprentice’s department head, the jobsite’s steward, or the Business Agent within the apprentice’s Hourly Logbook.  No signatures will be given for time worked until after the hours have been worked.

A second book for each apprentice shall be kept at the Local 24 office.  It shall be the responsibility of the apprentice to make regular appointments with an executive board member or apprenticeship committee member at the Local 24 office and have this book updated to reflect the apprentice’s work record.  If the apprentice’s book is lost or destroyed any hours logged in their personal book that are not updated in the second office log book shall be null and void.

Once all required work hours are completed all apprentices are required to pass a written and practical test in each of the above hourly disciplines.  Apprentices desiring to work as riggers or on the fly rail shall be required to complete an additional written test, practical test, and training class.

Anyone that completes the requirements of the apprenticeship program, pays the remainder of the required initiation fees for membership, and completes the necessary paperwork and applications for membership shall be admitted as a member.
